There is a feverish knock on the door.
I’m not amused, but I open it.
“You have to help me. Someone is after me.” she pants, breathless after running for her life. I know these men and they are not to be trifled with.
“Who is after you?” the man with cerulean, blue eyes asks. His suit costs more than my rent and that’s saying a lot.
“It doesn’t matter, I need to get off the street before they find me.” Her lovely chest heaves and her eyes are as wide as saucers.
She’s gorgeous and doesn’t belong here. She’s interrupted the recon mission against my enemy. Instinct has taught me that no good deed goes unpunished.
I decide to help her, but we’re interrupted by a guard.
“What are you doing here and who is she?” he asks.
“She’s with me,” I say, taking her by the arm and guiding her to the front door.
“Follow me,” I mutter as I lead her to my waiting vehicle.
I look over my shoulder, and my enemy’s soldiers are racing toward us.
“Run!” I yell, taking her hand and pulling her with me to my waiting vehicle. We jump into my waiting SUV.
“Step on it,” I yell. I know they will figure out who she is because even I know she’s the governor’s daughter.
